At Portland Yoga Arts, we offer an Advanced Studies Program(ASP) for intermediate students and yoga teachers who want to deepen their experience of yoga. You can study within the Advanced Studies Program in two ways. As a general student, you can register for and attend most any class in the ASP which you find interesting. As an enrolee in the yoga teacher training option, you can proceed through the two year program, preparing yourself for a career in yoga instruction.
The Advanced Studies Program requires two years to complete, for those enrolled in the teacher training option. There are 500+ classroom hours in the curriculum. Classes meet on Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm & 7:15pm. To be eligible for the teacher training option, students should have a minimum of 2 years of consistent asana class attendance. We welcome graduates of other yoga teacher training programs and practitioners of other yoga lineages.
Those who enroll in the teacher training option must also meet other requirements. For both years, they must maintain a homepractice of one hour per day, five days a week, in addition to attending a weekly yoga class with Barbara or Todd. Teacher trainees will also attend a monthly peer-led study group and maintain a transcript of completed course requirements. In the final year of the teacher training option, students will also assist one of Todd or Barbara's classes for 3 terms. Students will also attend a Summer Intensive and 10 hours of Senior Iyengar Instructor workshops.
