Level 1
For beginning students, students new to Iyengar yoga, and for those who prefer a gentler class. We’ll study the basics of alignment, sensing the body and gradually stretching out the tighter places while building strength in a balanced way.
Level 1 - Gentle
This is a yoga class for students who have physical challenges or disabilities, or who are recovering from injury or illness. The goal is to provide the benefits of yoga to people who might otherwise find a regular yoga class beyond their ability. The focus will be on alignment, and the use of props, to do poses that will improve the student's posture, flexibility, strength, balance and mindful relaxation.
Level 2
For students who have mastered the basics and wish to cultivate more strength, endurance, flexibility, and grace. We’ll embody more subtle ways of working and releasing into the poses and expand our vocabulary & knowledge of inner body experiences in yoga. We’ll establish secure foundations for, and begin working with, inversions such as shoulderstand, headstand, handstand and forearm balance. A wider variety of forward bends, backbends and twists will also be explored.
Level 3
For experienced students who have refined their ability to feel, work, and release inside their body. We’ll study a wide variety of poses with more challenging sequencing, practicing inversions regularly. Students will continue to develop their repertoire of internal communication styles, while venturing into ever more subtle and sophisticated methods of experiencing the poses in their body. Students must have an established home practice to attend.
Core Strength
Suitable for all levels and even for non-yogis, this class will focus on building strength in the core of the body. Each class will feature work for the upper body, back and abdominal muscles. The intent will be to build the strength, flexibility, alignment and awareness in the core body to stay upright and strong in our daily life. This is not an asana (yoga poses) class, but will prepare the body’s infrastructure for a deeper asana practice. Designed to assist all bodies in the on-going fight against gravity. Got Strength?
Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga will focus on poses that help strengthen the pelvic floor, gently release tension in the hips, exercise the spine and ease the low back. Many of the poses can aid in circulation and digestion, both helpful during pregnancy. There will be some breathwork, as well as plenty of variations to help each student find the pose that works for their body and stage.
Yoga for Cyclists
This class is tailor-made to help the active body release tension, find alignment and begin to find pathways to greater awareness, endurance and comfort. Prevent injury and enhance performance through a series of poses that open space around the joints and elongate chronically shortened muscles, all while stilling the mind. Level 1 and 2 appropriate
Yoga for the Health
We will practice preventive and therapeutic poses to help with the chronic conditions commonly experienced in aging. We will work on balance, upper and lower body strength, pranayama (breathing), and meditation.
